HOW WE VET
How We Vet Management Companies
HOA Explore is free for boards. Every company undergoes a strict screening process before even receiving their first request.

What Every Company Must Show Before Joining
Before a company is matched to any community, HOA Explore checks its licensing, financial and legal history, resident reviews, and day-to-day operations. Companies that don’t meet our standards don’t make the list.

Credentials & Compliance
We verify manager licenses where required, designations like CMCA, AMS, and PCAM, and business registration.
Financial Safeguards & Legal Standing
We review liability, E&O, and fidelity insurance, Secretary of State standing, and litigation history.
Track Record & References
We review years in operation, licensing board and BBB complaints, and references from current HOA boards.
How We Match
How We Match Vetted Companies to Your Community
Vetting determines which companies join the network. Matching determines the best HOA management companies that receive your request, based on the details of your community and the services you need. All matched companies have been pre-vetted.
Our Network
One Standard for Every Company in Our Network
HOA Explore is part of The CAM Collective, a network of community association management companies. Companies in the HOA Explore network are evaluated using the same checks, regardless of their relationship with The CAM Collective, to ensure high-quality services.
Vetting Doesn’t Stop
Vetting Doesn’t Stop After a Company Joins
We re-review companies every 12 months to ensure they are up to standard. Off-cycle reviews are also triggered by certain events, such as board complaints concerning professional misconduct and insurance lapses. Firms that don’t pass our HOA management company reviews are removed from our network.
TRUST
Our Commitment to Transparency
We simplify the search for HOA management by helping boards find companies that serve their location and service needs. We check key business and professional details so boards can compare their options and make their own decision.
Free for Boards
Boards use our service free of charge and with no obligation. Participating management companies pay to be part of our network.
No Guarantees
We don’t guarantee results or recommend one company over another. Your board reviews the options and makes the final call.
Your Own Due Diligence
While companies in our network are vetted, we still encourage your board to verify references and review contracts before signing.
Informed Decision
What Your Board Should Still Check
HOA Explore simplifies the RFP process, but we don’t make the final decision. Before choosing a management company, your board should review proposals, interview candidates, confirm pricing, check references, and make sure the contract fits your community’s needs.
FAQ
How We Vet FAQs
How Does HOA Explore Vet Management Companies?
HOA Explore checks companies across three areas: credentials and compliance, financial safeguards and legal standing, and track record and references. See the vetting criteria above for the specific checks included in each category.
Are CAM Collective Companies Held to the Same Standard?
Yes. CAM Collective companies undergo the same checks as other companies in our network.
Do Management Companies Pay to Join HOA Explore?
Yes. Management companies pay to join our roster, but every one of them goes through a rigorous screening process. HOA boards never pay to use our service.
How Often Are Companies Re-Reviewed?

Licensing requirements vary by state. HOA Explore checks manager licenses where required, professional designations like CMCA, AMS, and PCAM, and business registration.
What Should Our Board Ask a Management Company Before Hiring?
Common questions to ask an HOA management company should be about services, fees, contract terms, staffing, communication, financial management, vendor oversight, and the transition process. See how to switch HOA management companies for more information.
Can Our Board Report a Problem With a Company We Hired Through HOA Explore?
Yes. Boards can report a problem with a company by contacting the HOA Explore team directly. Our team reviews each complaint carefully.
